Google Gave Tips for Debugging Technical SEO

Google Core Update for August 2023Google shared three essential tips for diagnosing and resolving technical SEO problems affecting indexing and ranking. In this helpful YouTube video, Google highlighted the following key tips:

Check If the Page Is Indexable:

  • Utilize Google Search Console's URL inspection tool to determine if a page is indexed and indexable.
  • Assess the last crawl date to gauge Google's interest.
  • Request a crawl using the URL inspection tool.

Verify Duplicate Content and Canonicalization:

  • Confirm if a page is marked as a duplicate, with another page designated as the canonical.
  • Google suggests this is generally acceptable as long as the content is indexed and displayed in search results.

Inspect Rendered HTML for Anomalies:

  • Distinguish between source code HTML and rendered HTML.
  • Use the rendered HTML to identify issues, especially related to JavaScript execution or server/application code problems.

Google Advertisers Can Now Opt Out of the Search Network

Google Core Update for August 2023Google responds to brand safety concerns by allowing advertisers to opt out of the Search Network. This decision came on the heels of an Analytics report alleging Google search ads on inappropriate non-Google websites, including those with adult content and piracy issues.

In response, Google introduced the option to exclude search partners. Advertisers, facing potential brand reputation damage, can now temporarily exclude campaign types from search partner sites, effective until March 1, 2024.

Despite Google refuting Adalytics' claims, the move aims to address concerns, improve customer satisfaction, and prevent ads from appearing alongside content that could harm a brand's image. The initiative aligns with industry efforts to enhance brand safety.

It enhances the depth and specificity of search outcomes by showing results not explicitly linked to original keywords. Deep Search's relevance is assessed based on factors such as topic alignment, detail level, credibility, freshness, and popularity.

Currently, only randomly selected Bing users have access to Deep Search during testing.
